Science with the Habitable Worlds Observatory and Beyond

Speaking Opportunities Remain for Early Career Researchers | Open Until June 23

Virtual Registration Open Until June 23

Excitement is building for “Science with the Habitable Worlds Observatory and Beyond”, a workshop dedicated to building out the science case for the Habitable Worlds Worlds Observatory and exploring its complementarity with other future missions and facilities.

Speaking Opportunities for Early Career Researchers: We still have openings available for contributed talks by early-career researchers in fields that are under-represented in the existing submissions. In keeping with our goal to include a wide and balanced range of speakers, we welcome additional submissions from Early-Career Researchers who wish to speak on the subjects of:

  • Stars and Star Formation
  • Stellar Populations
  • Galaxies and their Gas
  • Time-variable sources (supernovae, gravity wave counterparts)
  • X-ray, IR, and radio observations
  • Solar system objects
  • All relevant areas of theory

These slots will remain open until filled by submissions, or June 30, whichever is earlier. Abstracts on these subjects by ECRs (students, postdocs, and pre-tenure faculty or equivalent) are still being accepted at the main submission page: https://stsci.service-now.com/habw/

Early-career researchers can also request registration fee waivers and travel support by emailing HabitableWorlds2023@stsci.edu

.

Special Mentoring for Early Career Researchers: Astro2020 recognized that the New Great Observatories will be a multi-decadal, multi-generational endeavor. With a view towards equipping the rising generations of astronomers and technologists with the tools they need to lead, we will have two dedicated session to match ECRs attending the meeting with senior members of the community who can discuss their own career paths and offer guidance for how to navigate the process of mission development. We will supply additional details to all who self-identify as an ECR (student or postdoc) when registering. ECRs needing travel support should email us at the conference email address.

Hybrid Format: We will make use of state-of-the-art AV tools to make online participation effective. We do charge online participants a nominal registration fee to offset the costs of the virtual platform. Virtual registration remains open until June 23.

JWST and Beyond at the National Academies: Current in-person registrants will receive formal invitations to a reception and evening program at the National Academies Building on the evening of July 13. This event is open and free to all in-person conference registrants, and round-trip transportation from Baltimore to DC will be provided.

The previous requirement for proof of COVID-19 vaccination has been dropped.
