AGN-driven gas outflows in Stephan’s Quintet

25 October 2022, 12:00pm – 1:00pm Eastern
David Law and Travis Fischer

Abstract: Stephan’s Quintet is a well known example of interacting galaxies, whose tidal interactions trigger large scale gas flows. These gas flows have been revealed in spectacular detail by recent observations from the James Webb Space Telescope, from galaxy-scale molecular gas arcs to high-powered outflows driven by the AGN in the center of NGC 7319. We will discuss the multi-wavelength evidence for highly ionized outflows driven by this AGN through a surrounding molecular gas reservoir, and a preliminary analysis of the kinematics of this complex system.
